So first thing's first, I apologize for the lack of new comics since late October. I had a new addition to the family and that has taken up a lot of time for me and my family (my sister included). Also my sister has moved to Edmonton to start her new job as an intern for the Edmonton Oilers!
Hopefully that doesn't hinder her ability to digitize my doodles in a timely manner.
Second I moved the comic to Blogger as I have other Google products and keeping everything together seems to make the most sense at the moment.
Here's to a New Year of more science and education comics!

Is it True?
"Of course I alternate the answers so sometimes it really is all true or sometimes I'll do other patterns. Thus far none of my students have noticed."

Just Enough
One of my practicum supervisors told me that you know you've given enough homework when the students start complaining. It surprises my students sometimes as usually the homework in other classes gets piled on if they complain.

Teacher Hypocrisy
So we're always told at Pro-Ds that we shouldn't be teaching kids to use the tools of yesterday and instead teach them to use the tools of the future. Yet at all the schools I've been to, most teachers and admin do everything they can to get rid of the tools the students will be using once they are out there.

The Stair Master
Marking would be so much easier if teachers could mark this way. Thankfully (for the students, lol) we don't.

Desktop Clutter
I'm sometimes embarrassed by what students pick out on my computer desktop, but at the same time I'm quite impressed by their observational skills.

Like puppies, but not as cute
One of my practicum supervisors told me to treat my students like dogs and although I am uncomfortable treating my students like dogs, sometimes it is easier when they are trained like dogs.

Cell Phones in My Class
Sometimes I feel bad for the electronic devices my students use. The students just don't seem to realize the potential of what they have.

Asexual Reproduction part 2
This one always freaks out the students. Not sure if it's because they don't like the idea of something growing out of them or if it's just that I draw badly.

Collision Course
You can make up so many problems involving conservation of momentum with these things. It's also quite fun trying to re-enact some of them.

Asexual Reproduction part 1
One of the illustrations I use to help explain binary fission to my Science 9 class. Students always laugh at it, but boy do they remember it real well.

And we all fall down
Way better than listening to someone talk about literacy in the classroom or new strategies to make students read. Though how many teachers would sign up to study free fall hands on?

I'm teaching what?!
The teaching assignments that teachers get early on are really bizzare but sometimes you just take what you can get.

First Compressed Gas, then the World!
One of my grade 9 science students asked me this and she seemed quite worried someone might try it in the future. Add another one to my plans of world domination.

Call in the big guns
A lot of students were upset I wouldn't be teaching Physics next year because of the layoffs, seniority issues and so on. So they came up with some ingenius ways of persuading the superintendant to keep me on staff.

Down to the minute
New teachers are taught to prepare lessons like this but after the first week (sometimes sooner) these kinds of lessons tend to get thrown out. Though some supervisors would prefer all teachers teach this way and stick to it.

Addicted
One of my professors mentioned to us that some teachers just need their fix before they do anything.

Daily Physical Activity for Science Class
My school does this already for our junior science class. Sometimes we wish some students would meet up with some of the wildlife when they wander off by themselves after we tell them not to.

No hostile parents (yet)
I suppose that's why those students do well in school and the other students don't. Parental involvement certainly helps academic achievement.

Sure glad curling was broadcast online during the olympics. Made my physics class a lot more interesting.

Golf and Poker Pro-D
I wonder how the pro-d committee would react if they knew their funding was being used to play golf & poker in Vegas?

Science & Technology Pro-D
I always sign up for technology pro-d if there is nothing science related being offered that day and I am always disappointed, but there usually isn't anything else that is interesting to me.

Good & Bad Pro-D
DPA stands for Daily Physical Activity. An initiative to help prevent obesity in our students. Whatever happened to playing outside on the playground after school?
